Why do you crave adventure?
What drives you to do a cannonball into a frozen lake? And why would any guy in his right mind walk two miles over a trail of lava rocks -- barefoot -- just to paddle a piece of fiberglass into a ten-foot wave?
It's simple. Adventures build character. It's why women think scars are sexy, or why George Clooney gets better with age. See those lines on your face? They're telling a story.
Adventure is the stuff that people say you can't make up. And they're right. Sure, you can grab a sleeping bag and head to the lake -- and you know that something great will happen. But you can't know what that will be until it's pretty much happening to you.
So you have to be ready. And no one can teach you that. Your dad showed you how to shave or to bait a hook. After that, you're on your own. So you go with what you know -- a good handshake. The right way to tie a jib. A twenty hidden in your wallet.
Adventure is always out there. And that's where you have to put yourself. Over and over, again and again. Because the more you do, the more lines and scars and tears and laughs and stories you collect.
